Doncaster R 0 Chester-le-Street 1: An excellent first half drive from Laura Darmody settled this FA Cup tie against Doncaster Rovers, from the Yorkshire & Humberside Premier division.
The first half saw constant CLS pressure; Rachael Weightman, Vikki Ryder and Laura Darmody all came very close to scoring. At the back, Doncaster were restricted to just one meaningful shot, which our new goalie saved, and broke her shoulder after just 10 minutes of play. Leanne Clark, back on the field where she belongs, showed everybody why she shouldn't be in goal, even getting forward with some useful runs. All 11 of the CLS girls plus the three subs take great credit for this display of ability. Roll on the next round, and let's hope the confidence is carried into next weeks game against Wardley (Reyrolles).
Durham City 1 Wardley Eagles 0
Durham City Ladies progressed through to the First Round of the FA Cup after a great 1-0 victory over Wardley Eagles.
Citys winning goal came after a fierce Magda Carr free kick could not be held by the visiting keeper. Woman of the match Emma Legget was on hand to knock the ball into the inviting net.
In charge of the team for the day was Crook Town defender Rob Spink, who said: "I was especially pleased with the way the girls defended. From the start of the season we have been letting in goals far to easily, but the defence were excellent today".
City hope for a big name tie in the next round, but have not yet booked accommodation in Cardiff yet for the final.
