RUNNER Jean Davison will be taking part in the Great North Run in a wheelchair - after she fell over while training.
The 48-year-old, of North Rise, Darlington, was out jogging when she tripped and broke her leg.
She was rescued by the Great North Air Ambulance Service and airlifted to Darlington Memorial Hospital for treatment.
But Jean was not to be defeated and will still go ahead with the race, in a wheelchair pushed by friends Sally Sayers, Lynne Dunlop and Barbara Auld.
And as a way of saying thank you to her ambulance rescuers, she is raising money for them by taking part in the race.
She said: "They are a voluntary organisation and don't get any Government money.
"This will be the tenth time that I have taken part in the Great North Run, but it is going to be a lot different this time."
