GARETH Gates had better watch out, these potential pop idols have an added ingredient - Dutch courage.
Budding singers and pub regulars from 12 North-East pubs are to battle it out for the coveted title of Pub Idol.
For the past two months, thousands of wannabe warblers have been competing in John Barras pubs for the chance to win a day in a recording studio and an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles.

The winner of this regional final will go on to represent the North-East at the national final in Manchester, on November 2.
Pubs entered into the regional final include The Ainsty, York; The Brinkburn, Darlington; Cross Keys, Washington; The Fountain, South Shields; Fox Inn, Guisborough; Kings Arms, Billingham; Longship, Newcastle; Prince of Wales, Jarrow; Telstar Hotel, Billingham; Travellers Rest, Hartlepool; and Wavendon Hotel, Sunderland.
