A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy who sparked a police alert after going missing has been found safe.

Northumbria Police said Ryan Foster, of Barmston village, Wearside, who was reported missing at 11pm on Saturday, was found at a house in the area.

WITNESSES CALL: Durham Police are appealing for witnesses to an accident in which a 55-year-old cyclist was injured. A Peugeot 106 car was involved in the accident with the bike on the A690 at Low Willington, at its junction with Stoney Bank, east of Willington, near Crook, at 7.30am on Thursday. The cyclist, from Gateshead, sustained a broken leg and thigh bone. His condition is "serious". The driver, a 21-year-old man from Willington, was uninjured. Witnesses are asked to call PC Arrowsmith in the traffic department, on 0191-386 4929.

HAPPY 100TH: One of North Yorkshire's oldest residents, Mollie Henry, has celebrated her 104th birthday. Friends and relatives attended a party at the Esk Hall residential home at Sleights, near Whitby, where Easington-born Mrs Henry lives.

PUB REVAMP: An east Cleveland pub will reopen next Monday, following a £750,000 renovation. The Cross Keys, at Upsall, Guisborough, will open on Monday October 14. It was recently taken over by the Chef and Brewer pub estate and has a new landlord and landlady, Steve and Pauline Simpson.

CREEPY CRAWLIEs: Brave visitors to the University of Durham's Queen's Campus will come face to face with snakes, spiders and creepy crawlies. As part of a family learning weekend, naturalist Michael Mann will be displaying his collection on Saturday, between 10am and noon.
