A 42-YEAR-OLD man died after an accident on a quad bike yesterday.

The man, from Redcar, fell off his bike at a motor cross track near the Hardwick Hall Country Hotel at Sedgefield, County Durham.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics at about 3.25pm before being taken to the University Hospital of North Tees where he later died.

A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said the man was given intensive care on the way to hospital.

Inspector Dave Kennedy, of Durham Police, confirmed the man had fallen from the bike but said it was too early to comment further.

An employee at Quad Bikes Leisure, which operates at the track at Hardwick Farm, declined to comment except to say the accident was nothing to do with the company.

Owners of both Quad Bikes Leisure and the track, Alf and Antoinette Walton, could not be contacted for comment.

Quad Bikes Leisure and the motor cross track opened for business in 1990. The track and the bike company are run separately.
