NORTHERN Soul is returning to Darlington after a decade or so away with a special night featuring six disc jockeys on Saturday.
The event is being held at the ASE Club, in Northgate, and comes at a time when Northern Soul music is rekindling its popularity through artists such as Alicia Keys.
In other parts of the North-East, Northern Soul is proving particularly popular among thirty-somethings who want to revisit their teenage years.
The disc jockeys playing 50 minute sets at the ASE Club are Darren and Carlo, from the Darlington Soul Club; Fergie, who used to host a soul night at The Bridge, in Catterick; Steve Wilson from The Swan, Billingham; and Kevin Cane and Gaz Simons, who both host soul nights at The Cumby Arms, in Newton Aycliffe. They will play tracks from 1960s classics through to more modern releases - and all will be on vinyl. The event starts at 7.30pm.
