NORTHERN Soul is returning to Darlington after a decade or so away with a special night featuring six disc jockeys on Saturday.
The event is being held at the ASE Club, in Northgate, and comes at a time when Northern Soul music is rekindling its popularity through artists such as Alicia Keys.
In other parts of the North-East, Northern Soul is proving particularly popular among thirty-somethings who want to revisit their teenage years.
The disc jockeys playing 50 minute sets at the ASE Club are Darren and Carlo, from the Darlington Soul Club; Fergie, who used to host a soul night at The Bridge, in Catterick; Steve Wilson from The Swan, Billingham; and Kevin Cane and Gaz Simons, who both host soul nights at The Cumby Arms, in Newton Aycliffe. They will play tracks from 1960s classics to more modern releases. The event starts at 7.30pm.
