Volunteers are needed to join a team of drivers at Darlington Memorial Hospital. Drivers must own a reliable car and be available on one or two days a week to transport elderly people to and from hospital. Expenses will be paid. For details call (01325) 743866.
COMPETITION WINNERS: The winners of the Asda supermarket Crayola colouring competition in Darlington have been announced. Winner in the three-to-six age group was Jacob Melling, four, of Darlington; and in the seven-to-12 group Luke Weller, seven, also of Darlington. They received art materials as prizes.
BOND SCHEME: Darlington Bond Scheme is looking for people to support its work. The charity was set up to bridge the gap for homeless people wanting to move into rented accommodation and raise the bond or advanced rent for people who cannot afford it. Anyone wishing to help can call (01325) 467617.
COFFEE EVENING: A coffee evening is being held at St James the Great Church, Albert Hill, Darlington, tonight, from 7.15pm.
MONEY RAISED: Members of Northgate United Reformed Church, Darlington, have raised £800 to support Ann Hines, wife of a former minister at the church, who is in South Africa doing voluntary work with women suffering from HIV and Aids.
SAFE DRIVERS: A safe driving course run by the Institute of Advanced Motorists is starting in Darlington on Wednesday, October 16. The course includes three theory sessions and an on-road driving assessment. The course costs £25 and leads to the advanced driving test which costs £45. For more information call (01388) 812323.
BLOOD DONORS: The National Blood Service is holding a donor session at the Methodist Church, in Lydia Street, Willington, on Wednesday, October 23, from 3pm to 7pm.
