A NIGHT on the town ended in agony for a local man.
The 35-year-old man received severe head and facial injuries, including a smashed jaw, when he was attacked in Station Road, Redcar.
His broken jaw has been wired up and he also had facial plates inserted at Middlesbrough General Hospital.
The attack happened a week ago today, but Cleveland Police were not able to release an appeal for witnesses until yesterday.
Police say the man had spent the evening with two men and two women he had met earlier that day. He had left Club Kudos with one of the couples when he was attacked by "an unknown male'' as he walked into Station Road from the High Street - opposite Birkbeck's electrical shop.
A force spokeswoman said police were anxious to talk to the injured man's companions and anyone who was in the area at the time of the attack. They are asked to call (01642) 302626.
