A REMARKABLE piece of craftsmanship will be on display at an award-winning museum.
The replica of a Tommy gun, carved from a single piece of hardwood, has recently been given to Eden Camp, a modern history theme museum near Malton, North Yorkshire.
The designer, Alan Cone from Bradford, has donated his work after visiting the museum several times. He said that he makes wooden carvings for pleasure and relaxation.
Steve Jaques, the museum director, said: "There are not many guns on show here, as we tend to tell of the social history in the region, but this art work is so intricately made that it has to be displayed. It is hard to believe that it is made out of wood.
"Tommy guns started life with the gangsters, but were major weapons in the Second World War. Thousands of these guns were used very effectively."
