The first ever Ryedale ten was won in convincing fashion by John Yates of Thirsk and Sowerby in a time of 61 minutes.
John led from four and a half miles and followed the time car in the lead from that time. The run was based around Malton on a pleasant day for running, and the field of about 80 is likely to be increased next year.
The Snape 10K, actually slightly longer than 10K, was won by John Mason in a time of 35.24 minutes. First Thirsk and Sowerby runner, in a time of 37.27, was Cameron Choules in 5th place. Ian Codling was 37th in 49.35 and the next club runner home was Judith Seaton in 44th place in 54.13. Judith was the winner of the F40 event. Jo Fambely was 59th in 59.49 and Pamela Sherlock 62nd in 61.50. There were 80 finishers in this mainly off road event, based on the attractive village of Snape.
New member Roy Bainbridge is a keen Ultra Runner, in very long distance events. Roy competed in the Croon Ultra Challenge, which comprises two events four months apart. In the Apeldorn event Roy covered 159.6 kilometres and finished in 15th place against all-comers, including International runners, and he was 1st in the Open race.
At Winschoten he took 11 hours 48 minutes to run 100K and was 1st in the M65 group and just missed the Bronze Medal in the M55 group by 10 minutes.
