The Under 18s followed up Thursday night's FA Youth Cup victory over Thackley with a 1-1 draw at West Denton - just 40 hours later.
The Cestrians made ten positional and five personnel changes for the match but struggled to get going in windy conditions in Newcastle. Chester were the stronger side throughout. Both goals were scored in the opening half with Paul McDonald scoring a superb headed goal for Chester-le-Street to equalise just before the interval.
Two important close calls prevented the Cestrians victory. Firstly, Paul McDonald was scythed down just inside the penalty area, then Steven Dawson scrambled the ball home after being fouled by the home goalkeeper. The goal was disallowed and no penalty was awarded.
Chester Manager Andrew Muxworthy was upbeat saying, "I am disappointed with the result but the lads have done so well in the FA Youth Cup and I have put them under pressure to perform - which they have. They were exhausted after Thursday and maybe we shouldnt have played today."
Team: Shaun Beckwith, Gary Draper, Karl Haggon, Michael Renshaw, David Lowther (sub 63 Andrew Coulson), Jonathan Taylor, Andrew Murray (sub 63 Harry Flynn), Steven Dawson, Paul McDonald (sub 63 Daniel Newby), Mark Adamson, Andrew Smith. Subs not used: Daniel Graham, Craig Watson.
Meanwhile, the Cestrians have learned that they have had five players called into the first official Durham County FA squad of the year. Michael Renshaw, Daniel Newby, Karl Haggon, Daniel Graham and Shaun Beckwith have all been included.
