Teesside League Second Division side Whinney Banks always looked in control of this meeting with Thornton Le Dale after taking a 2-0 half time lead with two goals from Peter Clarke in the 15th and 28th minute. In the first minute of the second half they further increased their lead when Chris McAvoy added the 3rd and he was on target again in the 64th minute to make it 4-0. Andrew Spittlehouse then pulled a goal back in the 67th minute, but it proved to only be a consolation goal as Arran Ward struck in the 79th minute to make the final score 5-1 and a place in the next round in November.
