A MAJOR search is expected to be launched this morning for a depressed 45-year-old man who has now been missing from his home since September 30.

Ian Turner was last seen at lunchtime on that day when he left his home in the village of Sherburn, near Malton.

There have been no sightings since then and he has not contacted his partner. Police say they are now extremely worried.

"Ten days is too long for an adult to be out of contact and we are increasingly concerned," said Detective Sergeant Ian Fieldsend, yesterday.

Officers have already made house-to-house inquiries as well as contacting Mr Turner's relatives in South Yorkshire, but so far to no avail.

This morning it is planned to carry out a search of the countryside in the Sherburn area.

The missing man is 5ft 9ins, of average build with a chubby face, brown eyes and a very pale complexion. He has very short black hair and speaks with a soft voice.

When last seen he was wearing blue jeans and a sweat shirt and may have had a black canvas attach case with him. He sometimes walks with a hospital-style aluminium stick.

Anyone who may have seen Mr Turner is asked to contact the police on (01723) 509604.
