A PRIMARY school, where the children are involved in decision-making, has been given an Investors in Children Award.
Cestria Primary School, in Chester-le-Street set up a school council, consisting of two pupils from each year group, about three years ago.
Since then, children elected to the council by their peers have helped establish major changes at the school.
The school has no playing field, so the school council has made the most of the playground by using its budget to install climbing frames, a climbing wall and even a crazy golf course. Over the years, it has also played an integral part in other decisions.
The award was presented to last year's council members at a ceremony held at the school.
