A HEADTEACHERS' leader has slammed the Government after schools in Scarborough were told they will miss out on more than £2m of extra funding that had been promised by Whitehall.
All the town's 25 primary schools were due to get an extra £50,000, while the six secondary schools were to receive £165,000.
Now, North Yorkshire education authority says the schools will only get an average of £9,000 because most of the Government cash is to be used to benefit inner-city schools.
Dave Evans, headteacher of Barrowcliffe, one of Scarborough's biggest primary schools, and secretary of the county branch of the National Association of Headteachers, said: "We aren't getting a fair shake of the dice. We were promised there would be some changes in the comprehensive spending review, but it has turned out not to be the case. A lot of people in education are very angry. There is inequality of funding. It should be needs led and that is not happening in North Yorkshire."
He said the headteachers were calling on the Government to re-examine the situation.
