A GROUP of Gurkhas had an appropriate guide when they went on a tour of the Green Howards Museum, in Richmond.
Lieutenant Colonel Denis O'Leary is someone who knows their country and traditions well - and is now working to help former Gurkha soldiers back in Nepal.
He formerly commanded the 1st Battalion the 7th Gurkha Rifles, in Hong Kong, and now helps run the Gurkha Welfare Trust, which provides welfare pensions for former Gurkha soldiers who served during the Second World War and up until 1960.
The trust also provides clean drinking water in Nepalese villages, and strong bridges over the gorges in the mountains.
On Friday, November 1, the trust is holding a fundraising concert at the Dolphin Centre, in Darlington, when the Band of the Brigade of Gurkhas and Pipes of the 2nd Gurkha Battalion will perform a programme that includes selections of Nepalese music and dance.
Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £10, £8 and £6, and are available from the Dolphin Centre, on (01325) 388410, or from the Gurkha Welfare Trust, on (01969) 993551.
