Members of Darlington Harriers warmed up for the Great North Run at the Horsforth 10k near Leeds.
Martin Grainger was eighth overall in a time of 34.47mins, Jack Mason ran a personal best time of 37.23mins and his running partner Ronnie Read ran 39.49mins having just got back to running after an injury. the first lady home once again was Alison Raw in a time of 38.30mins.
Last weekend at the 22nd running of the Great North Run there were some excellent performances by members of the club.
Paul Kelly was competing in his 22nd race and finished in a time of 1.16.45. The next Harrier home was Simon Rutherford, who knocked an amazing ten minutes off his previous best time to finish in 1.20.33.
He was followed by his sister Susie, the winner of this year's Darlington 10k who ran home in 1.23.22.
Steve Hutchinson, who is aiming for the 2002 London Marathon, finished in 1.25.10 closely followed by Hon Lee, who is now also racing triathlons, in a time of 1.26.50.
Jack Mason ran 1.27.01 and Ronnie Read exactly 1.30.00.
Harry Singh, competing in his 100th marathon, just beat Ken Hudson (1.38.45) with a time of 1.38.44.
Dave Weston ran 1.39.06 and John Brant on his way back to fitness ran 1.47.04. Members of the ladies' group ran well together. In the same time of 1.56.00 were Julie Peacock, Anne Palson and Alison Peacock-Farrell having managed to shake off their coach Harry Prince, also on his 22nd race, who finished in 2.02.10.
Steve Dauber ran another pb in 2.07.43. Paul Lax beat his wife Pauline (2.30.05) with a time of 2.00.00. Club coaches Dave Cottam and Amy Laverick making sure no one was left behind finished in 3.06.00. In the Junior Great North Run on Saturday, a number of boys and girls from the club ran along the new course at the Newcastle quayside. In a fun event at this super new site, Emma, Andrew and Paul Clifford, Jamie Rutherford, Richard Woodward, Emma Shakeshaft and Emily Bramble all ran and were all proud to show off their medals at the end.
Darlington Harriers are hosting the NYSD cross country relays this weekend at Eastbourne school and the first race starts at 1pm and it should be an exciting event with over 15 clubs taking part.
