Loftus Ath v Annandale: Ipreliminary round of the League Cup, a match sponsored by A.Wilson, Loftus over powered Annandale.
Annandale, however, went into an early lead after five minutes when scrappy defensive play allowed Fairbank through to score. It wasn't long before Loftus hit back scoring three goals in ten minutes courtesy of Howes, Wilson and Sivills. Early in the second half a further goal from Sivills, closely followed by Jemson being on target took Loftus into an unassailable lead. To Annandale's credit they never gave up and in the 75th minute Barker found the net to give them some hope, however when both Chris and James Wilson scored for Loftus the task was too much for the battling Annandale side. Final score 7-2
Grangetown v Brotton
Leagie leaders Grangetown suffered their third defeat of the season at the hands of an in form Brotton. Grangetown took the lead after 20 minutes when a through ball was picked up by Wise for him to lob the Brotton keeper. The lead was short lived when Brotton netted twice in a matter of minutes, both scored directly from well taken corners, to give Brotton a slender lead at the break. In the second half Grangetown began well having most of the play but Townend in the Brotton goal proved himself to be a worhy man of the match saving a number of one to one shots from Skelton. A mistake from the Grangetown defence allowed Brotton through on the break for them to increase the lead and they went on to clinch the match with a fourth in the closing minutes. Final score 1-4.
Hinderwell v Goldsborough
With four goals in 20 minutes Goldsborough thanks to Stewart, Bagnall, Hicks and Dent, had the match all but won, completely dominating the game. Hinderwell got it together towards the end of the first half and a keepers mistake allowed Morrison the chance to pull a goal back. Hinderwell played well in the early part of the second half but failed to convert their chances and with Dent comleting his hat trick and a late goal from Sanderson, Goldsborough deserved the points.
Lealholm v Grosmont
Both keepers played a big part in an evenly fought game, with Pearson in the Grosmont net making 3 crucial saves early in the match. Following some end to end play Grosmont scored two quick goals in the closing minutes of the first half, a good cross into the box found Lever and then a run down the left led to a fine shot from outside the box by Hall. In the second half Lealholm attacked well and within 15 minutes had pulled a goal back when after a run down the right the ball was pulled back by Whitwell fro Hill to score. Grosmont were ever dangerous on the break but keeper Gibson kept Lealholm in the game with some fine saves. What could have been a high scoring game finished at 1- 2, giving Grosmont their first points of the season.
Boosbeck Utd v Haxby & Wiggington
It took about 20 minutes for the North Riding Cup game to settle down both teams began with a positive attitude.Boosbeck opened the scoring when a right wing move involving Graig and Dean Winter saw the ball crossed for Arran Johnson to flick a clever back heeled ball into the net. A free kick awarded to Haxby on the stroke of half time resulted in the ball being fired into the roof of the net from a goal mouth melee to level the score. Early in the second half Boosbeck won a corner, Craig Winter finding Ian Brown who's powerful header was placed into the corner of the net to give Boosbeck the lead. Vince Parry wa impressive in midfield winning vital tackles in important parts of the field. Boosbeck's third goal came when Thompsom played a ball down the left which Johnson ran on to and cross for dean Winter to score. Boosbeck clinched the tie after a fine cross was met by Thompson to fire into an empty net. Final score 4 - 1 .
Lingdale Tavern v University of York
Lingdale Tavern were also representing the league in the North Riding Cup and got the start they wanted when Gary Calvert picked up the ball on the edge of the box and played it to Neil Calvert who neatly slotted the ball past the keeper. The York team battled well and were rewarded when on 10 minutes White ran past two players to equalise from the edge of the box. Ten minutes later Lingdale had restored their lead following a break by Calvert who placed a good cross for Breckon to score on the line. Lingdale could have had more goals but for the efforts of Arnold in the York goal, making some great saves from the persistent Breckon.
In the second half both teams played well but it was the home side who increased their lead on the hour. Shane Breckon turned provider and his cross found Calvert who headed home from close range. York continued to battle well but the Lingdale defence kept them at bay. Final score 3-1.
Carperby Rovers v Highland Laddie
Highland Laddie nmade the long trip to Carperby, west of Leyburn, only to come away empty handed despite dominating large parts of the game. The first half ended with honours even at 1 - 1. In the second half Carperby seemed to have that bit extra in attack and a full time score of 4 - 3 saw them progress to round 2.
