ANIMAL welfare officers are becoming concerned about the number of cats that have gone missing recently from the Wolviston Court area of Billingham.
In the past two weeks, 12 have been reported missing to Stockton Borough Council's animal welfare team.
The team recommends that all cats and dogs are fitted with an electronic chip carrying their details.
Michelle Johnson, an animal welfare officer, said: "At the moment we are trying to make investigations as to where these cats have gone. However, so far, we have drawn a blank.
"If owners had their animals chipped, it would save a lot of confusion and heartbreak. Collars are not really suitable for cats as they tend to lose them very easily."
For further information about getting a pet chipped contact the animal welfare team on (01642) 391126.
