HUNDREDS of older people are set to benefit from a £1m windfall in Scarborough.
The town's Age Concern group has been given the money by the National Lottery's New Opportunities Fund, said Stephen Dunmore, chief executive of the fund.
"The healthy living project for Scarborough promises to have a major impact on the quality of life old older people in the community," he said.
The initiative is led by Age Concern Scarborough and District, with a partnership of 18 organisations from the voluntary and public sectors.
Mr Dunmore said they had developed a programme of free, or low cost, services, which people might not otherwise be able to afford, such as garden maintenance, lip reading and rehabilitation advice. In addition, they will receive foot-care and dementia support, plus housing advice.
