THE future of a group which helps Scarborough's disabled people is under threat.
Scarborough and District Disablement Action Group (Dag) has called a public meeting at the town hall on Friday, November 22.
Bridget Hardy said the group had helped local disabled people raise £110,000 between April and August, but is now facing a cash crisis of its own.
Redundancy notices have been handed to four staff as a result, while the organisation, at Allatt House, on West Parade Road, has until the end of November to come up with a rescue plan.
"It is a great shame because we are providing a service for disabled people and, without it, many will suffer," said Ms Hardy.
She said that bids for grants had proved difficult, as many prefer to support new projects.
"They don't always want to know about successful older ones, like ours," she said.
Dag has been in existence for 12 years and needs about £4,000 a month to continue, said Ms Hardy.
Talks are under way with North Yorkshire County Council's social services department and with the Scarborough Council for Voluntary Service.
However, the public meeting has been billed "a last-ditch attempt" to save Dag from closure.
