SUPERMARKET workers rolled up their sleeves to help spruce up rooms at a local hospice.
Colleagues from the Asda store in Bishop Auckland helped revamp six rooms in the town's Butterwick Hospice.
The doctors' surgery, activity kitchen and hairdresser's salon were among the areas given a complete make-over by store staff, who brightened each room up with fresh wallpaper and paint.
This year, the Bishop Auckland store has already raised £2,000 for the hospice, in Woodhouse Lane, through fundraising events such as Splat the Bather and a Christmas Grotto.
General store manager Dave Burn said: "Our old store has built great links with the Butterwick Hospice and we are looking forward to continuing the relationship with the opening of the new store.
"We are delighted to help in such a practical way and I hope we are able to make a difference."
Margaret Fowler, from the Butterwick Hospice, which provides day care for patients with a life threatening illness, was thrilled with the new-look rooms. She said: "The hospice relies heavily on local support and we are extremely grateful to Asda for their generosity and much needed practical help."
