A TALENTED teenager will play the starring role in a forthcoming production of Annie.
Sophie Begg, 13, of Pity Me, near Durham, will appear at Newcastle's Theatre Royal in the show by the Newcastle Upon Tyne Operatic Society, from October 28 to November 2.
Due to the heavy demands of the role, she will share it with Carly Stanley, from Ashington, Northumberland, with each girl starring in four performances.
Sophie is no stranger to the stage, having appeared in shows with Durham Operatic Society since she was eight.
She recently appeared in a concert at Durham's Gala Theatre, and in 1999, played the role of Cosette, in Les Miserables, staged at Newcastle Arena.
Other members of the cast of Annie include veteran amateur actress Shireen Hamlani, who plays Grace Farrell and Lawrence Scott, who plays Oliver Warbucks.
