THE country's first rural learning centre is being set up at Fylingthorpe, near Whitby.
The venture, known as Baythorpe College, has been funded by the Learning and Skills Council to the tune of £32,000. It involves a partnership of learning providers all working together to provide opportunities for the local community, said Ian Carter-Brown the community education district manager.
It is taking the form of a computer-based learning centre, and villagers of Fylingthorpe and Robin Hood's Bay are being encouraged to attend open days which are being arranged.
If the venture proves successful, others are set to follow, said Mr Carter-Brown.
