WHITBY-born author Peter Frank who became a university lecturer teaching Soviet and Russian politics, has return to his home town to write a new book, Yorkshire Fisherfolk.
It tells the story of the inshore fishing communities at Whitby and Scarborough, vividly describing not only the tough fishing folk and their boats, but also their domestic lives.
Professor Frank has researched documents dating back to Elizabethan times, as well as obtaining first-hand oral testimony of old fishermen.
"It is my attempt to repay part of the debt to the community that nourished me in the formative years of my life," said Prof Frank, who became a commentator on Russian politics for ITN's Channel 4 news and a regular television and radio broadcaster on other channels.
Published by Phillimore and Company of Chichester at £17.99, the book is a comprehensive and fascinating chronicle of the fishing industry dating back some seven centuries.
