GOLFERS have boosted two North-East children's causes at an annual charity day.
The Federation Brewery teamed up with Brancepeth Castle Golf Club, near Durham, to stage the final round of an event which attracted such a big entry that qualifying rounds were required.
More than 100 golfers took part at Brancepeth, having emerged from the earlier qualifiers at Bedlington and South Moor.
After playing out the 18-holes, the competitors moved on to the 19th hole to enjoy the clubhouse hospitality at a presentation evening at which 14 players received awards.
Top prize went to Ernie Emmerson, who recently retired from the brewery at Gateshead.
He won a set of Nine Pure Spin Irons from Stephen Wanless, the Federation's trade promotions manager.
Mr Wanless said: "Once again our annual golf event has been a tremendous success.
"Some good weather and a bit of healthy competition out on the course are the necessities for an enjoyable event.
"I'm delighted with the money raised and look forward to the next one."
All proceeds go to the Percy Hedley Foundation for children with learning difficulties and Butterwick Children's Hospice appeal.
