Spennymoor manager Tony Lee was full of praise for keeper Adrian Swan as Moors held on for a goalless draw at Droylsden.
The teams replay at the Brewery Field tomorrow night after Swan kept them in the competition in the first half with some excellent saves, and then he stopped a penalty after the interval.
"Adrian was outstanding," said Lee. "He made a brilliant save from the penalty, but he's that sort of keeper - he can pull off saves like that.
"We needed him in the first half because we changed our system and couldn't get to grips with Droylsden, but after half time we went back to our normal style and played much better."
Moors were second best in the first half. Swan pulled off good saves from Wael Nazha, and Gavin Salmon had a goal disallowed.
Swan pulled off a superb save from a Neil Hall penalty, pushing the ball over the bar after 70 minutes, but Moors, who created a few chances, thought they should have had a penalty when Jason Ainsley appeared to be tripped with five minutes left.
Blyth substitute Paul Baker scored a late equaliser to deny Durham City a place in the last qualifying round at the Archibalds Stadium.
Baker was called upon by Blyth because of injuries and suspensions, and the former Hartlepool player rewarded them.
Northern League Durham took the lead after 32 minutes when Blyth defender Justin Keegan failed to control a long ball from Jeff Stephenson, and Gavin Mudd took advantage to beat Paul Gilmore.
And Durham nearly got a second when Micky Dunwell ran clear, but pulled his shot wide.
Blyth came more into the game in the second half and equalsied after 68 minutes, when Marc Riches failed to hold a cross, and Baker turned the loose ball home.
But City nearly snatched victory, when Keith Douglas hit the post late in the game, and the ball bounced back into the keeper's hands.
Durham boss Billy Cruddas said: "There were two crucial incidents in the second half, and both of them went against us. But we're certainly not worried about going up there for the replay on Thursday"
Dunston are out of the Cup after they were beaten 1-0 at home by UniBond League club Marine.
"The players froze," said assistant manager Perry Briggs. "Our best player was an 18 year old, which says it all."
The only goal of the game was just after the half hour, when Dave Thompson crossed for Neil Black to head home. After that, Marine were content to soak up the pressure, although Dunston had a good chance when Paul Hogg broke away, but he fired over the top.
