STEPHEN Harmison was last night backed to have Australia running scared by fellow England speed merchant Simon Jones.
They have each won just one Test cap but Jones, of Glamorgan, believes he and Durham's Harmison will have the likes of Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting hopping about against their 90mph-plus missiles in this winter's Test series.
The selection of Harmison and Jones, who head Down Under on Wednesday, is a clear sign of England's intent to blow away Australia as they try to wrest the Ashes from the world champions' grasp.
And Jones, who like good friend Harmison made his international debut against India in the summer, insists he and his teammate will rough up the Aussies.
Jones said: "Myself and Steve have both got raw pace, which is something no batsmen in the world truly enjoys facing.
"We won't be going out there to bowl half-volleys, that's for sure.
"The short ball will be part of our armoury for getting them out, and the hard and bouncy pitches will be perfectly suited to fast bowlers like us.
"This is the first time for a while that we've had a really quick pace attack with which to go at Australia. They might be the best side in the world but I truly believe we've got a chance of beating them."
