THWARTED lovers and saucy humour promises to entertain a village hall audience when a touring theatre group performs a new version of a Moliere comedy.
Dubbed the original Carry On plot by theatre lovers and performers, the NTC theatre group will put on a modern version of the classic comedy Tartuffe.
Writer Stewart Howson has adapted the play and his new version will be performed at Mickleton Village Hall, in Teesdale, on October 30.
The comedy centres on the character Tartuffe, who worms his way into the household of wealthy Italian merchant, Orgon, before marrying his daughter and seducing his wife.
Stan Walinets, vice-chairman of Mickleton Village Hall Association, said: "Tartuffe was the original Carry On film plot - a hilarious and outrageous classic that still gets audiences laughing 350 years on. Tartuffe is performed in a style with its roots in classic Italian Commedia del'Arte, yet with a relevance and humour that will delight modern day audiences."
The play will begin at 7.30pm and tickets are available at the door or by calling (01833) 640066.
