A BAT signed by Durham County Cricket Club players is being offered to the highest bidder to help raise funds for a Christmas dinner for elderly villagers.
The club gave the bat to Jim Affleck, sub-postmaster in Newfield Village, near Pelton, and he plans to use it to boost the Christmas fund.
Mr Affleck helps organise the dinner as a thank-you to about 70 senior members of the community who use the post office. To bid for the bat call Mr Affleck, on 0191-370 0347.

BEAUTY EVENING: The Mayor of Durham, Councillor Eileen Rochford, is holding a fundraising beauty evening at Bowburn Hall Hotel, in Bowburn, near Durham, today at 7.30pm. Proceeds will boost the Mayor's Appeal to aid the Butterwick Children's Hospice and the Round Table Children's Wish funds.
CONVERSION PLAN: Oldfields Restaurants, of Barnard Castle, has applied for permission to convert the former office of The Northern Echo in Claypath, Durham, into a licensed bar and restaurant.
HISTORY DISPLAY: Chester-le-Street History Society is holding an exhibition of photographs of the town until Saturday, in the library.
