DON'T Dress For Dinner was the invitation to The Northern Echo's longest-serving employee, Geoff Elvish, when he was guest of honour at a show in Darlington Civic Theatre on Saturday.
He and his wife, Joyce, watched the farce, starring Robert Duncan, Melanie Stace, Vicki Michelle, Glenda McKay and Giles Watling and were then guests of the theatre's a-la-carte catering service.
Systems manager Mr Elvish and his wife were invited to sample the theatre's menu, organised by catering department chief Christine Speight, chef Ian Beckett and waitress Yvonne Etherington.
Mr Elvish, who has worked at the Priestgate offices, in Darlington, for 40 years, is a regular theatre-goer but had not realised that the threatre's conservatory bar doubles as a restaurant at curtain down. He said: "It was a very enjoyable evening's entertainment followed by a good meal in pleasant surroundings without having to leave the premises."
Post-performance dinners cost £15 per person and are arranged in advance, when seats are booked. A form is provided for customers to choose from a supper menu.
Eight tables are available, but it is only possible to book after certain shows. There is also a bar within the restaurant.
