A NEW team of governors for a troubled Darlington school looks likely to be given approval.
The go-ahead for changes in the Eastbourne comprehensive team was given by Darlington Borough Council's cabinet yesterday.
Suggested members include the principal of Darlington's Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, David Heaton. Other names recommended by the cabinet included councillors Eleanor Lister and Geoff Walker.
A total of nine new governors were approved by the cabinet.
The positions have become available following last week's resignation of headteacher Richard Appleton and chairman of governors Ian Haszeldine.
Mr Appleton had said that he wanted to look for new challenges in education. Mr Haszeldine, who is also a ward councillor, said he had too many other work commitments. It is believed a number of other governors have also resigned.
Parents were told of the changes in a newsletter and many expressed their concern about the continuity of education at the school
Yesterday, Coun Lister said: "The school has been through a difficult period and it is essential we move quickly to minimise disruption to staff and, more importantly, the pupils.
"This is a difficult time, with new starters and children moving up to exams, and it is important we get a full governing body soon.
