PUPILS are using technology to test their geography as part of a national week.
To celebrate Geography Action Week this week, Durham School pupils are taking part in a quiz on the geography department's Intranet.
They have to identify various locations from photographs and clues, and prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner-up at the end of the week.
The week is an annual event organised by the Geographical Association to promote geography in schools.
To get the week off to a promising start, year seven pupils at the school were presented with a free Ordnance Survey map of the Durham area.
Staff are also joining in by taking part in their own quiz, with another Ordnance Survey map on offer as the prize.
John Renshaw, head of geography, said: "The week is both an informative and fun way to highlight the importance of geography, and a chance for pupils and teachers to share in the enthusiasm we have at school for the subject.
"The Geographical Association has been running this event for about five years now and our pupils, from all years, are very keen to take part."
