VISITORS to Hartlepool Historic Quay are being warned to prepare themselves for battle at the weekend.

More than 200 re-enacters will be involved in close quarter battles when they take over the tourist attraction to mark the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar on Saturday and Sunday.

Visitors will be confronted by pirates who have captured a British frigate and sailed it into the town to loot the quay and cause havoc ahead of a French landing force.

The local militia will take on the pirates before being outnumbered by the French.

A British commando raid will then be organised to re-take the quay and the ship.

As the battle intensifies there will be lots of musket, sword and pike fights around the quay and HMS Trincomalee.

In addition to the re-enactment, all the usual attractions at the quay will be open.

The usual entrance charges will apply, although no charges apply to the Museum of Hartlepool and the Wingfield Castle.

Further information is available by contacting the quay on (01429) 860006.
