TOWN centre improvements designed to accommodate a £26m shopping centre were officially unveiled yesterday.
Bus laybys for Redcar, which will come into operation on Sunday, were unveiled at the new link road by Mayor Eric Jackson.
And today a six-metre sculpture called The Seven Plaice will be lowered into place on Redcar High Street at the entrance to the centre.
The laybys were funded by developers of the new Regent Walk shopping mall and will be served by Arriva North East's 22, 22a, 64 and 82 services as well as the 88 and 89 evening services. The 22, 22a, 64 and 82 buses will be diverted from the regular Town Clock stops.
Brian Hogg, lead member for sustainable development at Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, said: "I'm delighted to see the new link road completed and the new bus stops ther as well."
The 23-unit Regent Walk development, built by the Teesland Group in partnership with Sir Robert McAlpine, the council and regional development agency One NorthEast, will open on Friday, November 1.
