CAMPAIGNERS have won their fight to bring back St Wilfrid's funfair to Ripon Market Place.
The fair did not appear at its traditional home this year because a £2m landscaping and refurbishment scheme had been carried out on the Market Place and surrounding area.
Amid fears that the funfair might not return because of damage to the new surface, residents Sandra Burns and Pauline McHardy organised a protest petition.
After considering the petition and submissions against the funfair returning, Harrogate Borough Council has now given its backing for its return next August, as well as giving approval for a Spring Bank Holiday fair on the square, which will also take place next year.
The council said the return of the fairs will be reviewed after the one-year trial.
Mrs McHardy estimated more than 1,500 people signed the petition.
