PETER Allen built some excellent courses at the recent Stainsby Grange senior show, where Paul Barker took the 1.20m open Horse and Hound Foxhunter on Joanne Tanfield's Stainsby Sponeck, ahead of Katherine Leak riding Lady Boss.

Barker had taken over the ride at short notice after Joanne broke her collarbone while out hacking. Sponeck, which won the national ladies championship at Arena UK for Joanne, had qualified for the AON seven-year-old championship.

Whitby's David Harland took the Members Cup on Ted's Way, ahead of Donna Mewse on DJA's Soft Touch, with Lady Boss third, while Helen Swailes riding Bowes Tiger Lily took the Great Leighs Newcomers ahead of Jane Lishman on Mandy's Lad.

The 47-starter British Novice was won by Bishopton's Sophia Cuthbert riding Holy Diamond ahead of Emma Boynton on Mayo Minor, while Durham's Joanne Little rode Grantboune Landslide to take the strongly contested Discovery ahead of Vicky Allen on Brian Candler's Just Short Circuit.

Richmondshire equestrian centre held a successful two-day show the previous weekend with courses designed by Alan Mewse and Ian Brown.

Caroline Dennis on Ringfort Diva clinched the British Novice, while the Discovery went to Karl Bowman riding Dolphaz Ruby ahead of James Taylor and Landcruiser.

Donna Lillie and Alpine Marc took the 1m open ahead of Helen Swailes on Florentina. Helen took the Newcomers with Bowes Tiger Lily, while the 1.10m open went to Amy Wall on Ferndale Cleo.

Robert Shields from Crook took the Foxhunter/Open on Westbourne E Time ahead of DJA's Soft Touch. Sally Jane Adams and Baskin Ilex took the Winter JC, while Adam and Brad Valks both had wins with Royal Declan and Esselle.

Jade Flannigan, riding Bowes Sleeping Beauty and Misty Grey, took the 11 years and under. The latter was runner-up in the small pony open
