A PREGNANT woman is recovering from shock after being attacked on her way home from a night out.
The 20-year-old, who is seven months pregnant, had been to her sister's house in the Grangefield area of Stockton, last Saturday.
She was making her way home along Bishopton Lane at about 2am when she stopped at a take-away outside Rebels Nightclub.
After placing her order she waited outside and noticed a woman and a man standing nearby. The man called out to her and asked her if she was okay as she was holding her stomach.
She answered, before picking up her take-away and heading back towards Bishopton Lane.
She became aware the man was following her, and as he quickened his pace she became nervous and went towards a phone box.
The man made a grab for her, pulling her to the ground and pushing her on to her back. He then sat over her.
The woman screamed and managed to attract the attention of a man walking his dog, and a man and woman she knew. They challenged the man who made off.
PC Lisa Close said: "This woman has had a lucky escape and is fortunate not to have been seriously injured. However, she is extremely shaken and upset by the incident.
"Quite a lot of people were around at the time and I would urge them to get in touch with me if they have any information."
The attacker was white, aged 40 to 45, 5ft 10in, had a stocky build and dark gelled hair and brown eyes.
He had thick eyebrows and was clean shaven. He was wearing a black leather jacket and dark trousers.
