A CRACKDOWN on illegal firework sales is being launched in the run-up to Bonfire Night.
Durham County Council's consumer services department is targeting firework retailers in an effort to protect children from being injured by the explosives.
It is illegal to sell fireworks to anyone under the age of 18 and all firework retailers in the county will be visited to ensure they are aware of the age restrictions and appropriate firework storage requirements. Inspectors will also ensure that information and safety leaflets are available.
Anyone aware of a retailer selling fireworks to under-18s is asked to contact the department on 0191-383 3589.
