A COLLECTION of Iron Age finds went on display yesterday as a two-week archaeological excavation drew to a close.
Visitors to Foxrush Farm, Dormanstown, Middlesbrough, were also given the chance to try their hand at making a clay pot in the traditional Iron Age way, to take a woodland nature walk with an Iron Age theme, and to watch demonstrations of wood turning on a pole lathe and willow weaving.
It was the last chance to view the excavation, organised by Tees Archaeology in a partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Council's museums service and countryside section, before back-filling begins today.
The site is known from aerial photographs and a recent geophysical survey had located a number of remains which may represent pits, ditches and an area of burning, perhaps a hearth or kiln.
Information discovered during the excavation will be used to create an exhibition for display at Kirkleatham Hall Museum, Redcar, next year.
