HEARTLESS thieves have stolen a jewellery box belonging to a sick child.
The family of five-year-old Shelly Dodds are trying to raise enough money to build a sensory room for her.
But the family home in Dean Road, Ferryhill, County Durham, was burgled in the early hours of Friday.
A Sanyo CD hi-fi system and purse containing cash, bank cards and a passport were among items stolen.
But it is the theft of a pink jewellery box, containing several items belonging to Shelly, which the family most want back.
Shelly's mother, Debbie, is continuing to raise money for the sensory room.
Friends joined her in a fancy dress night around pubs and clubs in Ferryhill and Chilton at the weekend, which raised £309.
Anyone with any information about the theft is asked to contact Newton Aycliffe Police on (01325) 314401.
