YOUNGSTERS from a North Yorkshire primary school marked World Food Day by raising money for the hungry.
Children at Barton CE school learned that 25p would provide enough rice to provide for a family for a day, so they decided to sell leaves for a Giving Tree, at 25p each.
Parents were invited to an assembly to see the tree and hear the youngsters perform the World Food Aid pop song, All I Wanna Do Is Help You.
A total of £60 was raised, and headteacher Liz Trewhitt said: "The children were very concerned about the plight of the hungry and were eager to help.
