A WASTE disposal firm has released more information about its bid to move onto an industrial estate on the edge of the A1.
Firms in Brompton-on-Swale are worried that having Yorwaste as a neighbour could have an impact on their own trade.
But Yorwaste points out it needs a temporary base soon as the landfill site at nearby Scorton closes next summer and a new waste transfer site along the road at the Tancred Quarry will not be ready by then.
As a result, the firm is asking Richmondshire District Council for temporary permission to use an industrial unit on Bridge Road on the Gatherley Industrial Estate.
It estimates that, if the facilities are approved, they would be dealing with approximately 50,000 tonnes of rubbish a year - delivered by dustbin lorry, with waste not suitable for recycling taken on to local tips.
However, in an effort to allay local concern, Yorwaste has promised it will install an odour control facility at the station if council planners agree to allow the new facility to go ahead.
The firm says that it does not anticipate noise levels being an issue as the nearest houses are separated from the site by the busy A1.
