ONE man died and another was seriously injured when their car left the road and smashed into a telegraph pole yesterday.
The accident happened shortly after 1.30pm on the B1257 at Newgate Bank, about four miles north of Helmsley, North Yorkshire.
Three men, all believed to be from the Middlesbrough area, were travelling towards Helmsley when their silver Mazda 626, left the road, hit the pole and overturned.
The rear-seat passenger was confirmed dead at the scene and the driver was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees with serious injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the accident or the car before the accident to contact them on (01723) 509555.
