A MAN has told how a motorist who became ill at the wheel crashed his car into his front garden.
Widowed father-of-three Brian Johnston appeared to suffer some sort of seizure at the wheel of his Vauxhall Astra estate and, after veering across the road, drove into Edward Cowley's garden in Norton, near Stockton.
Following the accident at about 4.15pm last Thursday he was cut out of the car and taken to University Hospital of North Tees.
However, his condition deteriorated through the night and he died the next day.
The coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination has been carried out.
Mr Cowley, who was at his home in Leven Road when the accident happened, said: "I was in the bath at the time. I heard an unusual sound and realised it was a car engine. I opened the door and saw this car in my front garden with a guy slumped in the front seat.
"There was a little bit of blood on his forehead and he did not appear to be moving.
"A neighbour put a towel round his head and we waited for the ambulance."
Mr Johnstone lived alone and worked part-time as a delivery driver.
Witnesses to the accident are asked to contact police on (01642) 301558.
