A WOMAN killed in an accident in County Durham was a Dutch tourist, police revealed yesterday.
Marijke de Ridder, 54, from Vlaaringen, Holland, was a front seat passenger in a Peugeot car which was in a collision with an articulated lorry outside Durham Services, just off the A1(M) at Bowburn.
Her husband, Pieter, also 54, who was driving the car, was airlifted to Newcastle General Hospital with multiple injuries and remained in a critical condition last night.
The collision took place as the car pulled out from the service area onto the A688 Bowburn to Tursdale road, shortly before 10am on Friday.
A 47-year-old lorry driver from Bishop Auckland, was treated for cuts and whiplash.
