A FUNDRAISING night for a cot death charity looks set to be a sell-out.
And 1970s Newcastle United legend Malcolm MacDonald will be putting in an appearance.
The event will be held onWednesday in Witton Gilbert Workingmen's Club, at 7pm, to raise money for the Cot Death Society.
It is being staged for local mother Christine Oxley, whose year-old son, Joe Weldon, has the potentially fatal condition sleep apnoea, and has been lent a monitor by the charity.
The night will feature a performance by local group Envy and a grand raffle with prizes donated by local businesses. Ms Oxley said: "There were 300 tickets put on sale and there aren't many left, so it is just about sold out.
"We have had a good response from businesses for raffle prizes, and Hugh Mackay Carpets has donated a rug worth £1,000, which we will auction on the night.
"Malcolm MacDonald will be presenting the cheque to the Cot Death Society representative and handing out raffle prizes.
"The raffle tickets are selling well and I'm hoping to raise more than £1,000, possibly £2,000.
"If we got £1,000 it would pay for two monitors.''
Tickets cost £2 and are available from the club.
