THE glass in a new bus shelter is to be replaced after being repeatedly vandalised.
The bus shelter was put up in Barmpton Lane, Darlington, four weeks ago and four panels of glass have already been smashed.
Residents complained that the glass caused a hazard to pedestrians and the shelter had attracted vandals.
But a council spokeswoman said the bus shelter was built in response to residents' demands.
She said: "There are new low-level buses in the area and this shelter gives disabled people and those with small children somewhere to wait. It has been put in the best place from a safety point of view for people wanting to use the buses."
The spokeswoman said the broken panes would be replaced tomorrow with strengthened glass to deter further vandalism.
