CRASH INQUEST: An inquest into the death of a courier has been adjourned at Teesside Coroner's Court. Brian Johnston, 58, from Whinney Banks, Middlesbrough, was involved in a car accident on Leven Road, Norton, on October 17, and died in hospital the next day. His daughter, Carolyn Brack, 31, gave evidence of identification.
BRIDGE REPAIRS: Work is to begin on Tuesday on repairing Haydon Bridge, on the A69 Carlisle to Newcastle trunk road. Temporary traffic lights will be in place and a 10mph speed limit will be introduced at times. Traffic disruption is expected to last three days.
ROAD CLOSED: The A19 north and southbound carriageways between the A174 Parkway and the Crathorne turn-off on Teesside were closed for an hour and a half last night after a heavy goods vehicle overturned. Motorists were diverted via Kirklevington and Leven Bank.
BAND VISIT: Scottish girl band Lemonscent will visit Middlesbrough's HMV store on Friday to sign copies of their record Swing My Hips. They will be in the Cleveland Centre from 12.30pm.
INQUESTS OPEN: Inquests into two deaths were opened and adjourned yesterday in Darlington. Alan Milne, 43, was found dead at his home in Tyne Crescent, last Saturday. Karpal Singh, 44, was found dead at his home in Gladstone Street, on October 10. There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding either death.
MINISTER'S TOUR: Energy Minister Brian Wilson will visit North Tyneside tomorrow to open an offshore energy centre of excellence at engineering firm Amec's Wallsend base in Hadrian Road.
SHOW TIME: An adaptation of Graham Greene's Travels With My Aunt, starring Gary Wilmot, Clive Francis, Jeffrey Holland and Andrew Greenough, will be staged at Darlington Civic Theatre from Tuesday, November 5, to Saturday, November 9. For tickets call (01325) 486555.
